The BBC is reportedly planning to ignore the historic 2026 FIFA World Cup Final halftime show featuring BTS, Madonna, and Shakira.

According to multiple UK reports, the broadcaster may choose not to air the performance live during its main World Cup coverage, instead focusing on match analysis and traditional football commentary. The move has already sparked backlash online, especially among BTS fans excited for the group’s massive global return to the stage.
The halftime show itself is still moving ahead as planned and remains one of FIFA’s biggest entertainment experiments ever.
FIFA previously confirmed that BTS, Madonna, and Shakira will headline the first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show during the World Cup Final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The performance is being produced with Global Citizen and curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the event as “a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup.”
For BTS, the performance is especially significant because it comes after the members completed military service and resumed full-group activities. Fans are already speculating about surprise collaborations and special stages between the three global acts.
Shakira is also expected to perform music connected to the tournament, continuing her long history with FIFA events, while Madonna adds another major pop icon to the lineup.
Despite criticism from some football purists who believe halftime entertainment could distract from the sport itself, the show has generated huge worldwide attention — especially thanks to BTS joining the lineup.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the tournament beginning on June 11.
